The Gospel of John is one of the most important books in the Bible, and there are many reasons for that, including the relationship between John and Jesus Christ. We'll talk a little bit more about that as we get into the background, but before we get into some of the background of the Gospel of John, I want to cover a little bit about John the Apostle.

The name John comes from the Greek 'Ioannis' or the Hebrew 'Yohann'—meaning Jehovah is gracious. I think it's very important to understand the background of some of the other studies we have about grace and love and how those are related. Then, when we get into the Gospel of John and go through it verse-by-verse, we will see the thread of this book all the way through and its meaning and teachings for us.
